Theory and leak detection introduction
The leak detection has experienced a rapid growth since World War II. The development of the electronics industry and increased activities in space exploration stimulated the development of new equipment and processes requiring controlled environments that had to be free of significant leakage. Analysis of gas with a mass spectrometer has been with us since 1920, but it was not until World War II that the concept was adopted as a means of locating leaks. Since then, it has become, through successive technical innovations, an increasingly useful device for quality control of a wide variety of systems and products.
